Since 2004, in order to improve the international standard of teaching staff, the university has started recruiting a large number of overseas teachers, particularly outstanding individuals with doctoral degrees from top universities in North America. Recruitment for North American economic and financial talent mainly takes place at the annual meetings of American Economics Association (AEA) and American Finance Association (AFA）.
Since 2008, university leaders and human resource leaders of SUFE have led a team of approximately 20 individuals to attend the recruitment event at the annual meeting of American Economics Association for a consecutive nine years. In this time, the university has attracted approximately 250 outstanding overseas doctors, which has set an exemplary role for Chinese colleges and universities, and has been acknowledged and praised by the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee and Shanghai municipal leaders.
