With morality education as the fundamental mission of undergraduate education, and “comprehensiveness, outgoingness and innovativeness” as the standards for talent education, Shanghai University of Economics and Finance aims at promoting the all-round development of students’ quality, knowledge, capability and health. The goal is to cultivate outstanding financial and economic professionals with a global vision, national spirit, and innovation, decision-making and organizational abilities.

To date, there are 38 undergraduate programs with 16 first-level disciplines covering multiple categories, including economics, management, law, literature, and science. The university adheres to connotative development with reform and innovation as the main driving forces. Whilst actively facing the needs and requirements of the country and society, the university continues to assess the quality of teaching and education with international standards and improve the quality of talent cultivation. Meanwhile, the overall scale of undergraduate students remains stable.

The university is actively exploring a talent education mode of “multi-dimensional curriculums, diverse approaches and personalized experience” to provide students with more options and greater freedom in their studies. By strengthening general education, the university helps students build a solid foundation in their major and improve their understanding humanities, scientific spirit and the sense of social responsibility. Majors and curriculums have been further developed based on the undergraduate teaching programs of the Ministry of Education. The university continues to broaden international channels of operation, introducing a large number of outstanding overseas teachers and seeking practical communication and cooperation with high-level overseas universities.

The university helps undergraduate students build a solid knowledge and understanding in humanities, guiding the students to learn proactively and discover their potential for innovation by implementing various strategies. These include strengthening general curriculums, offering students more freedom to change their courses and majors, widening the channels for student enrollment, educating students through practice, and establishing a diverse approach to develop all-round talent with the “three qualities and three types of experiences”.
