Key Disciplines
Disciplines are an important part to the overall construction of a university, and it is the leading work of a university. SUFE insists on “taking the first-class finance and economics disciplines as the direction, the solid digital disciplines as the base, and the heavy law, art, science and technology disciplines as the support”, and endeavors to build the first-class finance and economics discipline system to lead the digital era.
SUFE currently has 7 academic disciplines, including Economics, Management, Philosophy, Law, Literature, Science and Engineering; 10 first-level disciplines of doctoral degrees, 15 first-level disciplines of master's degrees, 17 master's professional degrees, 1 doctoral professional degree and 8 postdoctoral research stations in Philosophy, Theoretical Economics, Applied Economics, Law, Marxist Theory, Mathematics, Statistics, Management Science and Engineering, Business Administration, Public Administration; 1 national “double first-class” construction discipline, 4 national key secondary disciplines (including cultivation), 4 key secondary disciplines of the Ministry of Finance, 6 key secondary disciplines of Shanghai Municipality, 6 first-class disciplines of Shanghai Universities, and 2 peak disciplines of Shanghai Universities. SUFE has been selected as the first batch of 2.0 base of the National Top Students Cultivation Program in Basic Economics Disciplines, and owns the Economics Innovation Platform of the National “Innovation Platform of Advantageous Disciplines”, 1 Philosophy and Social Science Laboratory of the Ministry of Education (Cultivation), and 2 Key Laboratories of the Ministry of Education.
SUFE insists on Chinese characteristics and world-class as the core, supporting the innovation-driven development strategy and serving economic and social development as the direction, adapting to the development trend of disciplines in the digital era, making great efforts to promote the construction of a world-class university with distinctive financial and economic characteristics. In terms of international influence, economics and business, social sciences, engineering, and environment/ecology have entered the top 1% of ESI worldwide; in the 2023 Academic Ranking of World Universities, finance is ranked 43rd worldwide, economics is ranked 76-100 worldwide, and management, statistics, and public administration are ranked 151-200 worldwide; in the ranking of computer science, computational economics is ranked 3rd worldwide, and algorithmic complexity is ranked 38th worldwide; the related disciplines have entered or are close to the top 100 worldwide in single subject rankings such as the Global Finance Ranking of Arizona State University in the U.S. and the Global Accounting Ranking of Brigham Young University in the U.S..

Research
Scientific research is an important way for universities to understand the world, inherit civilization, innovate theories, cultivate students, and serve the society. SUFE insists on the development concept of “towering between the sky and the ground” in scientific research, focuses on the international academic frontiers and the national strategic needs, and continuously improves the level of scientific research and social service, so as to provide strong scientific research support for SUFE to fully realize the vision of constructing a world-class university with distinctive financial and economic characteristics.
SUFE has initially constructed a multilevel system of scientific research institutions that consists of 33 university-level and above scientific research institutions, including one Philosophy and Social Science Cultivation Laboratory of the Ministry of Education, one Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education, two Key Laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 24 provincial and ministerial-level institutions such as one Key Think Tank of Shanghai, and nine university-level institutions such as the flagship Think Tank of the Institute of Chinese Modernization, and the Institute of Chinese Modernization, and so on.
