On August 3rd, a team of SUFE students led by Professor Liu Yongming started their investigation in Gulang county, Gansu province as one of the 840 teams that participated in the Thousand Village Investigation. SUFE has promoted this program for eight years to help the students and teachers to go to rural areas and learn about and document parts of China.


Team members come from different places ranging from Gangsu province, Qinghai province, Ningxia province, and Shanxi province. Their majors varied from information, accounting, information management and engineering.


The investigation program this year required the students to collect information about finance in rural areas such as deposit, remittance, credit, and internet finance so as to provide referral information for governmental decisions. Gulang county was selected as the investigation spot through random sampling.


The investigation lasted 7 days, during which the team completed two hundred questionnaires and six survey reports, through visiting four hundreds families and investigating many rural financial institutions including Deijia Ying Cural Credit Cooperatives, Haizitang Rural Credit Cooperatives.


The villagers in the area showed kind hospitality to the team members. Through the survey, not only did the students of SUFE gain valuable personal experience but also gained in depth knowledge of the rural areas’ financial procedures.
