President Liu Yuanchun Leads Delegation to Singapore

From September 16 to 20, Liu Yuanchun, President of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics(SUFE), led a delegation to Singapore. The delegation visited international organizations and renowned universities, engaging in in-depth discussions on core topics such as academic research collaboration, joint talent cultivation, and reached a series of cooperative agreements.

During the visit, President Liu was invited to attend the 16th Future China Global Forum. As a keynote speaker, he participated in the opening thematic discussion titled “Game Theory and Opportunities in a Global Transition,” sharing academic insights on major issues including the evolution of the global geopolitical landscape and the development of China-U.S. economic and trade relations. The forum garnered significant local media attention, with Singapore’s Lianhe Zaobao reporting on the event.

The delegation visited the APEC Policy Support Unit (PSU). Both parties agreed to leverage SUFE's research strengths in economics, finance, and management to conduct joint research with APEC PSU on regional economic integration, the digital economy, sustainable finance, and trade and investment facilitation. Future collaboration will focus on specialized projects related to APEC priority areas such as the digital economy and green finance. The APEC PSU will also provide real-time internship and student researcher opportunities, supporting postgraduate students from relevant disciplines at SUFE to actively apply.

At Nanyang Technological University's Nanyang Business School, both parties shared practical experiences in professional master's programs and executive education. They finalized details for the 4+1 Master's Preparatory Program and explored the feasibility of overseas study programs at both undergraduate and master's levels.

At Singapore Management University, both parties exchanged updates on institutional strategic planning and professional master's program developments, reaching a cooperative intent to jointly establish the “China-Singapore Web3 and Digital Assets International Joint Research Center.” Moving forward, leveraging their respective geographical and disciplinary strengths, the two universities will jointly advance talent cultivation, scientific research, corporate services, and think tank development in the cutting-edge field of digital assets.

This visit not only conveyed China's perspective and showcased academic excellence on an international high-level platform but also deepened the university's relationship with key Singaporean partners, expanding new dimensions of cooperation. It represents a concrete step in advancing the university's “Double First-Class” initiative and internationalization strategy. Building on this momentum, SUFE will continue to strengthen international collaboration in discipline development, cultivate high-level, globally-minded, multidisciplinary talents, and continuously enhance its international influence and competitiveness.

During the visit, the delegation also held discussions with representatives of SUFE master's students studying at the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University to learn about their academic progress and achievements. Additionally, the delegation met with representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Singapore and DBS Group. Accompanying the delegation were heads of the School of Information Management and Engineering, the Graduate School, and the International Office.
