At 8:30 a.m. on October 22nd, the 28th SUFE Sports Games officially kicked off at the Gymnasium on Guoding Campus. SUFE leaders, Xu Tao, Xu Fei, Chen Hong, Liu Lanjuan, Fang Hua, Yao Lingzhen, Zhu Mingxiong, Zheng Shaohua – President Assistant, Liu Qingsheng, Zhang Yiguo, Zhou Jiepu, members of the school party committee, and directors from schools and departments, attended the opening ceremony.
The entrance ceremony was presided over by Lu Jidong, Director of the Physical Education Department. Accompanied by cheerful music, athletes of each school accepted the review of the SUFE leaders, fully demonstrating the energetic spirit of students of SUFE.
Subsequently, Vice President Fang Hua presided over the opening ceremony. After raising the national flag and playing the national anthem, Wang Xiyu, student athlete representative, and Yang Xiao, referee representative, took the oath under the national flag and expressed their determination to implement the spirit of fairness and justice.
Later, the Chairperson of the University Council, Xu Tao, delivered a speech. Xu pointed out that in the past year, SUFE has set a goal of comprehensive development of the students and linked up a physical education curriculum, extracurricular exercise, and competition training system. The university has also concentrated on refining the SUFE spirit of physical education with practical actions, so that the sports culture will flourish and reach the hearts of everyone on campus. Xu hoped that all athletes would fully demonstrate the Olympic spirit, higher, faster, stronger. With high morale and tenacious spirit, the Sports Games would be fair, safe, orderly and exciting. Then Xu Tao announced the official opening of the 28th Sports Games.
The gymnastics Take off, China, brought by teachers and students, was a performance that integrated taekwondo, skipping rope, cheer leading, aerobics, national standard dance, dragon dance and flag group gymnastics. It fully demonstrated the youth and energy of teachers and students.
After the ceremony, the student shuttle relay race and the collective long rope race were held in the gymnasium. Subsequently, Xu Tao presented the award to the College of Business for the Champion of the shuttle relay race, and Vice President Xu Fei presented the award to the School of Information Management and Engineering for the champion of the collective long rope race.
At 10 a.m., the Going forward activity of thousands of people walking on campus started under the leadership of the SUFE leaders. The teams were composed of school leaders and students. They held slogans such as “SUFE Sports” and “Serving the Country with Finance and Economics (Jingji Kuangshi)” (the motto of SUFE). They started from the Gymnasium and walked a circuit around the campus to reach the Wudong Playground. In the center of the playground, they put together the words, I love China, to present the 70th anniversary of the founding of China, showing the patriotism of all.
Subsequently, faculty sports games were held, including the tug-of-war competition and the goal-consistent competition. The faculty and staff realized the happiness of sports and the beauty of unity in the fun games. The Chairperson of the University Council, Xu Tao, Vice President, Liu Lanjuan, Vice President, Fang Hua, and Vice Chairperson of the University Council, Zhu Mingxiong, respectively presented awards to the champions.
At 1 p.m, the track and field competition was held at the Wudong playground. The competition included men's and women's 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, high jump, long jump, shot put and other events.
SUFE attaches great importance to physical education, and continues to promote the reform of physical teaching. Various sports activities have been carried out, and competitive sports have achieved excellent results. The convening of the Sports Games has played a significant role in boosting the development of campus sports activities, the construction of sports culture, and the popularization of the concept of all-round development of moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic and labour education.
