SUFE 2016 “ESTAR” Overseas Internship Program Came to a Successful End

02 02,2016

January 30th, 2016 in Washington D.C., the teacher and students who joined SUFE 2016 “ESTAR” Overseas Internship Program on the American Legal System  arrived at the terminal station of thier trip to New York City.

After a day’s break, they started their internship in the Eastern New York (NY) Federal Bankruptcy Court and the Eastern NY Federal District Court. The judges who gave the students guidance were: Judge Elizabeth S. Stong from Eastern NY Federal Bankruptcy Court, Judge Marilyn Go and Judge Pamela Chen from Eastern NY Federal District Court. During the one-week internship, the members of the program got a deeper knowledge of the Courts’ operating mechanisms, received insiteful instruction from the judges about the parallel political and judicial system of the U.S. and experienced the differences in jurisdiction. They attended trials on different types of cases including bankruptcy cases, criminal cases, civil cases,  mediation, etc. What’s more, they also participated in some meaningful programs like watching a jurisprudential movie, learning about ATI (Alternative to Imprisonment), having Pro Bono Lunch and viewing the naturalization ceremony.

On February 5th, this overseas internship program was completed with students saying goodbye to the esteemed respectable judges. Not only did the program help students know more about the American legal system, but also promoted their personal legal accomplishments and legal occupational skills. We sincerely hope there will be more and more overseas internship programs which can bring benefits to more students and facilitate SUFE Law school’s goal of elite education!
