Qian Jiannong and Jiang Haotian report on the Frontier of Entrepreneurship for the Kuangshi Class

07 13,2016

On July 7th, Vice President of Fosun Group Qian Jiannong, and the Managing Director from Northern Light Venture Capital Jiang Haotian, were invited to the SUFE School of Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Entrusted by SUFE, Vice President Fang Hua presented the letter of appointment as the consultant to the School of Entrepreneurship and Innovation to Mr. Qian, and the Director of the Department of Cooperation and Development Chen Hongmei, presented the letter of appointment to Mr. Jiang. During this period, President Fan Liming met Mr. Qian Jiannong, accompanied by Chen Hongmei and Executive Vice President of the School of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Liu Zhiyang, and exchanged a few words.

That morning, Mr. Qian Jiannong gave a lecture on the consumption trend in China titled, The New Normal Economy, which explained the transition from investment towards consumption, and how the consuming structure of China will change significantly in the future. Mr. Qian explained how consumption spurs economical development, and how tourism has benefited from this and has become a great force in continuing to boost the economy. He then introduced FosunGroup's strategy on tourism and ClubMed, and also predicted that the middle class in China is on the rise. He also suggested to students that instead of sticking to one particular field, they should maintain curiosity towards new things and should adhere to value investing principles, to “...figure out what contribution one can make to the enterprise, and find the right partners when starting a business.”

Later in the afternoon, Mr. Jiang Haotian gave his interpretation on the frontier of venture capital to the students. He recanted the four periods of  “up and downs” in his own life and work experience, and warned the future entrepreneurs that the best companies can always be established and grow during adversity, and the economic cycle has nothing to do with the condition or potential of a company. The Chinese economy has faced a challenging transition, and innovation and entrepreneurship have been promoted as a new national strategy. As for future investments he later explained, internet entertainment, trading platforms, intelligence systems, enterprise’s internet and the vertical field in “Internet+” have all shaped the  developmental trend.

Mr. Jiang Haotian also made a number of suggestions to the students. First, “...to discover your own strengths as an enterpreneur,” secondly, “... to take action as soon as the opportunity arises,” thirdly, “... to always encourage team-spirit; a team is always stronger than a single man, and lastly, “... to keep up with the times and keep your feet on the ground. Remember that the strength of a graduate lies in their youth, and an entrepreneur shall never be afraid of failure and shall always keep trying.”

Students were enthusiastic from beginning to end, (especially during the question and answer section), and many of them felt that they had learned a great deal from the speakers.
