On the 21st of July, in order to meet the strategic demands of economics development of China and the city of Shanghai, and to further the study of Shanghai as an international financial center and improve the communication and cooperation among think tanks, the first annual Meeting of the New Development Bank (NDB)“New Development Bank, A New Way Forward” was held in Shangri-La hotel in Pudong, Shanghai. The seminar was sponsored by the Ministry of Finance organized by Shanghai Institute for International Studies and Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, co-organized by the Collaborative Innovation Center of China Pilot Free Trade Zone

Leaders of the New Development Bank, senior government officials of BRICS and experts and scholars from all over the world attended the conference, including K.V. Kamath President of NDB,Zhu Xian, Vice President of NDB, Zhou Wuqiang, director of the International Finance and Economics Center of the Ministry of Finance. The meeting focused on NDB’s achievements last year and its hopes tocontribute to improvement in the world economy and sustainable development in new ways. SUFE President Fan Liming, experts from SUFE School of Finance, prof. Ding Jianping and prof. Zhu Xiaoneng, and Li Hong from International Exchange and Cooperation Office, Li Jinsong, Deputy Dean of the Graduate School,,Zheng Chunrong Deputy Director of the Office of Scientific Research and more than ten graduates attended the meeting.

During the opening ceremony, President Fan Liming extended sincere congratulations and warmly welcomed all the leaders and experts on behalf of SUFE. She pointed out that financial disciplines at SUFE have made distinctive contributions to every aspect of society through theuniversity’s functions throughout SUFE’s development of nearly a hundred years. Focused aroundthe Shanghai Institute of International Finance Center , the Institute Free Trade Zone Research, and the Collaborative Innovation Center of the China Pilot Free Trade Zone SUFE has carried out profound study in the construction of Shanghai as the international financial center and deepened financial reform in the free trade zone, and is playing an important role as the think tank, talent base and information hub for economic development . She also illustrated the various collaborations in talent cultivation, research cooperation and as well as between universities and banks.

The seminar was divided into two parts: “The First Year and Future Outlook of New Development Bank” and “The New Development Bank and Construction of Shanghai as the International Financial Centre”. Experts attending the meeting discussed topics from the perspective of policy-making and the academic research, and prof. Ding Jianping expressed his opinion on the second theme.

The Seminar mainly concentrated on the significant effect of the NDB in promoting Shanghai as an international financial center and its cooperation with Shanghai. Furthermore, the seminar provided a communication platform for government officials and experts from academic areas and enterprises.
