【Global SUFE】 SUFE Vice-president Yao Lingzhen leads a delegation to visit England and Switzerland

Vice-president Yao Lingzhen leads a delegation to visit England and Switzerland from September 2nd to the 9th. The purpose of the visit is to world education needs and how to increase education availablility worldwide, meet the demand for talent training under globalization, and expand and improve the channels of cooperation with international high-level universities.

 
The delegation attended the founding ceremony of the European Alumni Association of SUFE as well as the first council meeting of the Confucius Institute at Queen Mary University of London, they also attended UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development), and visited University of Zurich. Connections were established, and enhanced between SUFE and foreign universities as well as international organizations, and cooperation was strengthened in the domain of finance and management study and students’ overseas internships.


The deputation met the Vice Secretary-general Joakim Reiter during the visit of UNCTAD. Both parties discussed cooperation with UNCTAD in terms of the Virtual Institute, the possibility of cooperation in teaching, academic exchanges, and teacher training. The consensus was reached on further research in international trade, Chinese economics and students' internships in international organizations.


UNCTAD is one of the permanent organizations established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1964, its headquarters is located in Geneva, Switzerland. It is an international economy organization that aims to deliberate issues of development of economy and trading in related countries. It is the only intergovernmental body in the United Nations dealing with investment, finance, and technology and sustainable development. Ultimately, UNCTAD is serving members of the 194 countries that make up the organization. On April 27th, 2010, SUFE became the second university in China to officially join the UNCTAD Virtual Institute.

 
During the visit to the University of Zurich, the delegation met Christian Schwarzenegger, Vice President of the university as well as directors from schools. Both parties exchanged their experiences in the development of higher education under globalization, and the possibility of cooperation in scientific research ofstudents’ and teachers’ exchanges and joint training.

Established in 1833, the University of Zurich is the biggest university in Switzerland. The University has a worldwide reputation in the area of molecular biology, neuroscience, and anthropology as well as courses in business and management for graduates. It is the alma mater of 12 Nobel Prize winners and ranks 85th in the world according to QS rankings.


Delegation members include: Li Hong, Director of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation, Sun Bing, Dean of the International Cultural Exchange School and Director of Confucius Institute Office, Chen Hongmei, Director of the Department of Cooperation and Development.
