On March 13, Professor Teresa Murphy, Deputy Provost of George Washington University, led a delegation to visit SUFE, Yao Lingzhen, Vice President of SUFE attended the meeting. The meeting was hosted by Ding Dong, Deputy Director of International Office.
Yao Lingzhen welcomed Prof. Teresa Murphy and the delegation, and briefly reviewed the history of cooperation between the two universities since the signing of the first summer program agreement in 2014. She said that over the past ten years, the two sides have deepened their cooperation and achieved remarkable results, and have jointly cultivated 21 outstanding students in the 1+1+1 Master's degree joint training program. Last year, when President Liu Yuanchun led a delegation to visit The George Washington University, the two sides further signed a “3+1+1” program in the direction of Statistics and Accounting, expanding the cooperation from the graduate level to the undergraduate level. Yao introduced the latest developments of SUFE and emphasized that in the context of digital change, the two universities are expected to strengthen academic exchanges in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and digital economy, while deepening cooperation in traditional fields such as real estate and finance, in order to create an international development platform with a broader global horizon for the students and faculty members.
Prof. Teresa Murphy expressed her gratitude to SUFE for the hospitality. She mentioned that Washington D.C., where GW is located, is not only the center of U.S. politics and culture, but also an academic temple where global ideologies meet. GW attracts outstanding students from all over the world by virtue of excellent faculty, diversified student body, and rich career development resources, especially welcomes the students from SUFE to join. She emphasized that in the current context of international trade tensions and challenges of globalization, it is more important for the two universities to work together to build cooperative research projects, to address the complex situation with diversified international angles, and to let students feel the international mission in reality. Education is the best bridge to cross national boundaries and promote understanding. Hope further deepen the cooperation with SUFE in the fields of scientific research and student cultivation, which would explore new opportunities and possibilities for the development of the two universities.
The two sides exchanged views on the latest school news as well as the practical experience in digital transformation and development, agreed that the application of artificial intelligence is profoundly changing the shape of education, and that the two schools should further strengthen exchanges to promote the innovation of teaching methods and provide students with a smarter and more personalized learning experience. Vanessa Perry, Dean of the School of Business at George Washington University, Rodney Lake, Associate Dean of the School of Business, Peyton Yuan, Admissions Manager of China, and Cait Shannon, Assistant Director of the School of Business; Zhou Bo, Associate Dean of the School of Accounting, and Li Tao, Associate Dean of the School of Statistics and Data Science at SUFE, attended the meeting.
After the meeting, Prof. Rodney Lake, Associate Dean of the School of Business at George Washington University, gave a lecture entitled “Investment Strategies at GW: Training the Next Generation of Investors” to SUFE students.
GW delegation also visited SUFE history hall and business museum.
