On June 26, 2024 SUFE Commencement Ceremony was held in the comprehensive gymnasium of the Guoding Road Campus. University leaders Xu Tao, Liu Yuanchun, Chen Xinyuan, Yao Lingzhen, Zhu Mingxiong, He Pengcheng, Li Zengquan, Liu Liya, Liu Qingsheng, Standing Committee of the University Council Zhou Guoliang, Cao Dongbo, Chu Hua, alumnus of the 2000 undergraduate in Certified Accounting major, the 10th batch of Shanghai's Tibet-aiding cadre, Peng Yihao, as well as heads of administrative departments, schools and colleges(institutes, departments), representatives of the professors and graduates of the Class of 2024 with Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree or Doctoral Degree, attended the ceremony.
Teachers and students, alumni, and parents of graduates witnessed the ceremony together through online and offline. Shanghai Securities News, Youth Daily, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics WeChat Video official account, Weibo official account and other internal and external network media platforms carried out synchronous live coverage of the ceremony.
Before the ceremony began, teachers and students gathered to watch the video of the colorful campus activities of the 2024 graduates and reminisced about their lives in SUFE. Representatives of the graduates sang Youths’ China, Starry Sea and other crosstalk songs, with loud and clear singing to send sincere blessings to the graduates.

Liu Yuanchun, President and Deputy Chairperson of the University Council shared with the graduates the topic of Grasp the Trend of the Digital Era and Strive to Become a Newcomer to the Economy, how to grasp the rules, undertake the mission, and show their strengths in the new era full of opportunities and challenges. President Liu Yuanchun said that the graduates of the Class of 2024 have witnessed the change of the world, the change of the times, and the change of history, and their future careers will be in full harmony with the historical process of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and they will be baptized by the super era after entering the society. In the face of the full advent of the digital era, President Liu Yuanchun responded in the spirit of the school motto of SUFE, and put forward three expectations of the graduates: firstly, to respond to the inflammatory changes of the digital era with virtue, and to bear the mission and responsibility assigned by the new journey in the new era. The financial leaders in the digital era should prioritize virtue and be well qualified in both virtue and talent; secondly, to meet the comprehensive innovation in the digital era with erudition and be the pioneers of the times with strong learning and action power. Youths in the new era need to continue to build a knowledge framework, strengthen logical reasoning, and focus on solving real-world problems; thirdly, to grasp the new laws, concepts, and patterns with the Assist in Economy and Governance, and show the nature of SUFE youths in the digital era. To assist economy and governance in the digital era, we should be able to understand the new mission and law of the new era, comprehend the new order of the new industry and technology, focus on the new quality productive forces, promote the high-quality development, and be the leader of the tide. On behalf of undergraduate graduates, Ji Jiahao from the School of Mathematics recalled the journey of knowledge and learning during the school years, counted the growth and transformation in the past four years, and expressed his gratitude to the alma mater for its careful cultivation. On behalf of the master's degree graduates, Ke Anna, an international student from the School of International Cultural Exchange and College of Business, shared her unforgettable time studying and living in SUFE. Ke Anna, from Georgia, vividly told the story of her relationship with Chinese culture during her study and internship, recalled her original intention of choosing SUFE to learn business majors, talked about her friendship with the teachers and students of SUFE, and shared her valuable experience of participating in traditional cultural activities and serving as the host of the International Cultural Festival. In the future, she will continue to carry the imprint of Sufers, harbor the love for traditional Chinese culture, and use what she has learned in SUFE to tell Chinese stories and build bridges between Chinese and foreign cultures.
On behalf of the doctoral graduates, Wu Sirui from the School of Accounting summarized his four years of doctoral study in SUFE with three key words: seeking knowledge and exploring, making breakthroughs and innovations and serving the country through education. The cultural heritage and academic atmosphere of SUFE provided fertile soil for growth, the careful guidance of the supervisor stimulated the passion for knowledge exploration, and the international academic exchanges broadened the research horizons. As an organizing committee member of the Huang Dainian-type Teachers' Team Teacher-Student Party Branch, he adheres to the ideal of serving the country through education to build up the strength of the people of SUFE in the practice of educating people in an “of-indomitable-spirit way. He resonates his personal growth with the development of the country and continues to write his thesis on the motherland with the wings of education teaching and scientific research.
Passing on the flame, the teacher's grace leads the way. On the occasion of the graduates setting sail, teachers and alumni representatives also sent their parting words.
Zhang Yi, a professor from the School of Public Economics and Management, a young scholar of the National Talent Program of the Ministry of Education, and a winner of the Shanghai May Day Labor Medal, spoke as a representative of teachers. He used the popular application of artificial intelligence and the investigation and research of the back wave phenomenon to draw out the innovation of the times and discuss the self-realization of individuals in the context of artificial intelligence. In this era full of changes and challenges, he called on the graduates to hold a pioneering and enterprising mindset and recreate with the help of artificial intelligence. Peng Yihao, an alumnus of the Class of 2000, majoring in Certified Public Accounting, recalled his experience of studying and learning in SUFE and shared his heartfelt experience since he participated in the work of Xinjiang Aid. He explained how to make choices in the face of the unknown by sharing two stories of Tibet support, interpreted the spiritual core of “running out of the school door and learning in the actual work” with his personal experience of Tibet support, and encouraged the graduates to get out of the comfort zone and break the path dependence with the ambition of “daring to change the sun and moon into a new sky”. In 2024, our school selected a total of 236 outstanding graduates of Shanghai universities. At the ceremony, Xu Tao, Chairperson of the University Council, presented honorary certificates to the representatives of the 2024 outstanding graduates of Shanghai universities and congratulated them on their excellent achievements.
President Liu Yuanchun announced the university's degree conferment decisions: conferring doctoral degrees to 181 applicants, academic master's degrees to 632 applicants, master's professional degrees to 1,719 applicants, and bachelor's degrees to 1,877 applicants. The whole audience witnessed the important moment of the graduates' academic success.
In 2024, the University conferred honorary bachelor's degrees on 119 undergraduates. Vice President Yao Lingzhen presented honorary degree certificates to the representatives of 2024 honorary bachelor's degree recipients and commended them for their diligent study and outstanding performance in climbing the peak during their school years.
Border blossom, the struggle is the right time. This year, the university sent 12 students, including Huang Yue and Ji Jiahao, to Guizhou, Yunnan, and Gansu to participate in one-year teaching and grassroots social management services.
