On July 23rd, “Chess City Cup” National Students Chess Championships was completed in Chengdu. The contest was organized by the Chinese Chess Association, the Sports Bureau of Chengdu and the Chess Branch of the Federation of University Sports of China. More than 50 students from 26 universities participated in the competition.
After a nine round intense competition, students of SUFE won the team championship. In the male chess competition, four SUFE students competed with students from other universities. Liu Yida, the student from School of Law, defeated Li Shaogen, a professional candidate of Sichuan province and won second place. Song Haitao, also a student from the School of law of SUFE won third place. In the female chess contest, Liu Jue, a student from the School of Public Economics and Administration won three times in a row, in the 4th and 5th round Liu met professional players from Sichuan and Hangzhou, the contests both came to a draw, and she was awarded the third prize. According to the rules of the contest, the score of the team is calculated by the accumulative total of two male players and one female player. With a two prize lead, the SUFE chess team won the championship.
