Anthony Forster, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Essex, Led a Delegation to visit SUFE

On the morning of 18th October, Anthony Forster, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Essex led a delegation to visit SUFE. Xu Tao, Chairperson of the University Council met the delegation in the VIP room in the Yuheng Building.

Xu extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He reviewed the development of cooperation between SUFE and the University of Essex. He affirmed the efforts and achievements in cooperation, and introduced the recent development of SUFE. In the meantime, he pointed out that SUFE is dedicated to world class university construction and one of the important parts of that was education internationalization and fostering first-class talents with international worldviews. It requires SUFE to cooperate with top world universities and provide various international exchange opportunities for students. Meanwhile, the University of Essex, as one of SUFE’s important partners, has established healthy partnership with SUFE. He hoped that in the future, both parties could continue to strengthen cooperation, conducting substantial cooperation in broader fields.

Vice-Chancellor Anthony Forster expressed gratitude for SUFE’s hospitality. He appreciated SUFE’s great achievements in recent years. He also talked about the University of Essex’s recent development in terms of talent training and internationalization. He said that the University of Essex greatly value their cooperative relationship with SUFE. They had also emphasized the quality improvement of education and scientific research, and had placed improving international adaptability as a principal task, in order to focus on cultivating high-quality international talents. He positively anticipated more in-depth cooperation in various areas.

Later, both parties carried out productive discussions about details on future cooperation, especially about the pre-master’s program and dual master’s program.

The Delegation of the University of Essex, also included Vanessa Porter, Director of Communication and External Relations; Dom Micklewright, Dean of Partnerships; Professor Matthew Allen of Essex Business School; and Barbara Sun, Regional Director, China. Other attendees were Yao Lingzhen, Vice-President of SUFE; Lin Hua, Secretary of the Party Committee of the International Education College; Qiao Xiaomei, Dean of the School of Foreign Studies; and Yu Hong, Deputy Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office.

Founded in 1963, the University of Essex is a public research university, located in Essex, UK. There are various departments in the University of Essex, such as Essex Business School, the Department of Economics, the School of Law, the Department of Sociology and the Department of Government, etc. In the 2019 QS World University Rankings by Subject, its Politics ranks 33, Sociology 47, and Economics and Econometrics rank between 101 and 150. It ranked in the top 20 in the QS World University Rankings by Internationalization. In the evaluation of students’ satisfaction, it is in the top 15 in England and ranks 22 in the whole of the United Kingdom. It has fostered 3 Nobel Prize winners, including Christopher A. Pissarides, winner of the Nobel Economics prize in 2010, who received both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from the University of Essex.
