On the afternoon of March 13th, Alex Neill, Vice President of University of Southampton led a delegation to visit SUFE. Xu Tao, Chairperson of the University Council and Yao Lingzhen, Vice President of SUFE met with the delegation.
Xu Tao extended a warm welcome to Vice President Neill and the delegation. He reviewed the cooperation and exchanges between the two universities over the past 20 years, and briefly introduced the internationalization of SUFE over the past one hundred years, the pioneering reform of teacher internationalization in recent years, the implementation of the top-level partnership plan and the rising international competitiveness of disciplines. He suggested that the two sides further strengthen cooperation, explore the various cooperation oppurtunities and approaches, and deepen cooperation and exchanges in scientific research and personnel training. He conveyed that he firmly believed that the joint efforts of the two sides would achieve excellent cooperation results.
Vice-President Neill expressed sincere gratitude for the warm reception of SUFE. He greatly appreciated the achievements of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics in recent years. He then introduced the international achievements of the University of Southampton in recent years in personnel training, scientific research cooperation and industry-university-research linkage. He said that he believed that the cooperation between the two universities is of great value. University of Southampton cherishes the cooperation between the two sides and agrees with Xu's suggestion. He hopes that the two sides can carry out cooperation in more fields, including scientific research and education, further enhance friendship to benefit more teachers and students, and achieve win-win cooperation.
Vice-President Yao Lingzhen put forward suggestions on how to promote multi-level and different forms of talent training cooperation between the two sides in the future and build platforms for scientific research cooperation and exchange of teaching staff. Both sides agreed to diversify the forms of cooperation and to discuss in depth the cooperation in student exchange, master's degree programs, teacher and academic exchanges, and reached a preliminary general consensus.
Mr. Kieron Broadhead, Executive Director of Student Experience, Ms. Alex Bonczoszek, Associate Director of International Student Recruitment, Ms. Song Pan Utz, Senior Manager, Faculty International Office, from Southampton of University. Li Hong, Director of International Exchange and Cooperation Office, Chen Xuanjuan, Vice Dean of School of Finance and Rong Jun, Vice Director of International Exchange and Cooperation Office also attended the meeting.
The University of Southampton was founded in 1862. Its main campus is located in Southampton, England. It is a founding member of Russell Group, a member of the Worldwide Universities Network, and a member of SES-5. The university has departments of arts and humanities, engineering and physical science, environmental and life sciences, medicine and social sciences. At present, there are more than 23,500 undergraduates, more than 7,000 postgraduates and about 5,000 faculty members. In 2019, QS World University ranked 96th, 17th in British universities. According to the ranking of research Excellence Framework (REF), it ranked 8th in British universities. It is a world-renowned research university. According to the QS World University Ranking by subject 2019, five majors of the University of Southampton , including statistics & Operational Research (No. 48), rank among the top 50 performing majors in the world, and 12 majors rank among the top 50-100 majors in the world.
