From December 1st to 2nd, the 2017 “Exploring China: Discovering Yiwu, the World Capital of Small Commodities ”program was held in Yiwu .The program was sponsored by China Scholarship Council,and organized by Yiwu Municipal Government and SUFE. It attracted more than 100 Chinese Government Scholarship students from SUFE, Tongji University,Shanghai International Studies University, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Shanghai University of Sport . The students are from 41 different countries, among which 73 of them came from the Road and Belt regions. The delegation was lead by Sun Bing, Dean of SUFE International Cultural Exchange School and Wang Ling Party Secretary of International Cultural Exchange School Branch.
On the first day, after 5 hours of bus trip, the delegation arrived at Yiwu Urban Planning Exhibition Hall. The exhibition gave a vivid account of the culture and development of the city, displaying the dream journey of the city, the highlight was a 4D video of Yiwu urban planning of 2050 displayed through virtual reality.
Later, the delegation went to Qingyan Liu Village, which has the reputation of the First Taobao Village. The students closely interacted with students from Yiwu Business and Administration College who had started their own on-line business and learned about the procedures to start up an on-line business in China. The students also visited Haoye Agricultural Product Grocery Store, Mateng E-commerce Company and Yuantong Express. “I shop a lot on Taobao.”said a SUFE Ukrainian student, and he expressed the hope that he could bring the E-commerce business model back to Ukraine.
At Yiwu railway port, the students witnessed that rows of trucks fully loaded with imported goods that had just been unpacked from a Yiwu-XinJiang-Europe Cargo Train, which had just arrived in after a total of about 20 days travel. The train came all along from Europe through countries of Europe and Asia and finally reached Yiwu. The magnificent Yiwu-XinJiang-Europe route not only boosts the economics and culture exchange, but also plays a prominent role in Road and Belt initiative.
On the night of December 1st, “Experience China, Embrace Yiwu” Exchange Meeting was held. Deputy Secretary of Yiwu NPC standing committee Fu Chunming delivered an speech and introduced the development of the city, he also explained the international talent introduction policy and support program of Yiwu. On behalf of the 5 universities, Sun Bing, Dean of SUFE International Cultural Exchange School extended the gratitude to Yiwu Municipal Government and encouraged the students to further understand Yiwu and experience China. Afterwards, the representatives of each university shared their feelings after the visit.
On the following day, the delegation came to Yiwu International Trade Market. At the district One, the students had an insight of the development, orientation and prospective of the market. The students visited toy, decoration and crafter gift market respectively. At the import hall, they found commodities from different countries and learned about the regulations and procedures of importing.
Experience China program was launched in 2015 by China Scholarship Council for the Chinese Government Scholarship international students to encourage them to explore China. It was the second time SUFE organized the program since the program of “Discovering Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone”.It was also the first time that SUFE invited students from other universities in Shanghai to participate in the program .
